The Neglected Need…
People are waiting for us!—“There are many who are reading the Scriptures who cannot understand their true import. All over the world men and women are looking wistfully to heaven. Prayers and tears and inquiries go up from souls longing for light, for grace, for the Holy Spirit.
Many are on the verge of the kingdom, waiting only to be gathered
in.”— (Acts of the Apostles –
109)
Many gone down to ruin—“There are many who need the ministration of loving Christian hearts. Many have gone down to ruin
who might have been saved, if their neighbors, common men and women, had put forth
personal effort for them. Many are waiting to be personally addressed. In the very family, the neighborhood, the town where we live, there is work for us to do as missionaries for Christ.
If we are Christians, this work will be our delight. No sooner is one converted than there is born within him a desire to make known to others what a precious friend he has found in Jesus. The saving and sanctifying truth cannot be shut up in his heart.”—

The Painful Problem…
Why doesn’t God bring in new members?—The Lord does not now work to bring many souls into the truth,
because of the church members who have never been converted, and those who were once converted, but who have
backslidden. What influence would these unconsecrated members have on new converts? Would they not make of no effect the God-given message which His people are to bear?”—
(Counsels on Diet and Foods – 455)
Wasted opportunities and neglected privileges—“The work which the church has failed to do in a time of peace and prosperity, she will have to do in a terrible crisis, under most discouraging, forbidding, circumstances…The members of the church will individually be tested and proved. They will be placed in circumstances where they will be forced to bear witness for the truth. Many will be called to speak before councils and in courts of justice, perhaps separately and alone.
The experience which would have helped them in this emergency they have neglected to obtain, and their souls are burdened with remorse for wasted opportunities and neglected
privileges.”— (5 Testimonies –
463)
First things must be first!—“Thus Christ gave His disciples their commission.
He made full provision for the prosecution of the work, and took upon Himself the responsibility for its success. So long as they obeyed His word, and worked in connection with Him,
they could not fail…The Savior’s commission to the disciples included all the believers.
It includes all believers in Christ to the end of time. It is a fatal mistake to suppose that the work of saving souls depends alone on the ordained minister. All to whom the heavenly inspiration has come are put in trust with the gospel. All who receive the life of Christ are ordained to work for the salvation of their fellow men…Whatever one's calling in life, his first interest should be to win souls for
Christ. He may not be able to speak to congregations, but he can work for individuals. To them he can communicate the instruction received from his Lord. Ministry does not consist alone in preaching…Christ would have His servants minister to sin-sick souls.”—
(Desire of Ages – 822)
Not even one effort—“There are those who for a lifetime have professed to be acquainted with Christ, yet who have never made a personal effort to bring even one soul to the
Savior. They leave all the work for the minister. He may be well qualified for his calling, but he cannot do that which God has left for
the members of the church.” – (Counsels on Stewardship –
118)

The Saving Solution… What must we do?
Rouse to action like never before—“Today, in the spirit and power of
Elijah and of John the Baptist, messengers of God’s appointment are calling the attention of a judgment-bound world to the solemn events soon to take place in connection with the closing hours of probation and the appearance of Christ Jesus as King of kings and Lord of lords. Soon every man is to be judged for the deeds done in the body. The hour of God’s judgment has come,
and upon the members of His church on earth rests the solemn responsibility of giving warning to those who are standing as it were on the very brink of eternal ruin… In these final hours of probation for the sons of men, when the fate of every soul is so soon to be decided forever, the Lord of heaven and earth
expects His church to arouse to action as never before. Those who have been made free in Christ through a knowledge of precious truth, are regarded by the Lord Jesus as His chosen ones, favored above all other people on the face of the earth; and
He is counting on them to show forth the praises of Him who hath called them out of darkness into marvelous
light. The blessings which are so liberally bestowed are to be communicated to others. The good news of salvation is to go to every nation, kindred, tongue, and people.”—
(Prophets and Kings – 716)
Look at the Cross and be Broken—“Looking upon the crucified
Redeemer, we more fully comprehend the magnitude and meaning of the sacrifice made by the Majesty of heaven. The plan of salvation is glorified before us, and
the thought of Calvary awakens living and sacred emotions in our
hearts. Praise to God and the Lamb will be in our hearts and on our lips; for
pride and self-worship cannot flourish in the soul that keeps fresh in memory the scenes of
Calvary. He who beholds the Savior’s matchless love will be elevated in thought, purified in heart, transformed in character.
He will go forth to be a light to the world, to reflect in some degree this mysterious love.”—
(Desire of Ages – 661)
Indifferent No Longer!—“The transforming power of Christ’s grace molds the one who gives himself to God’s service.
Imbued with the Spirit of the Redeemer, he is ready to deny self, ready to take up the cross, ready to make any sacrifice for the Master.
No longer can he be indifferent to the souls perishing around him. He is lifted above
self-serving. He has been created anew in Christ, and self-serving has no place in his life. He realizes that every part of his being belongs to Christ, who has redeemed him from the slavery of sin; that every moment of his future has been bought with the precious lifeblood of God’s only-begotten Son.”—
(Lift Him Up – 58)
Get up & Get Busy!—“It is in doing Christ’s work that the church has the promise of His presence. Go teach all nations, He said; "and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world." To take His yoke is one of the first conditions of receiving His power.
The very life of the church depends upon her faithfulness in fulfilling the Lord’s commission. To neglect this work is surely to invite spiritual feebleness and decay. Where there is no active labor for others, love wanes, and faith grows
dim.”— (Desire of Ages –
825)
Pentecost, He will do it again!—“The first disciples went forth preaching the word. They revealed Christ in their lives. And the Lord worked with them… These disciples prepared themselves for their work. Before the day of Pentecost they met together, and
put away all differences. They were of one accord. They believed Christ’s promise that the blessing would be given, and they prayed in faith. They did not ask for a blessing for themselves merely; they were weighted with the burden for the salvation of souls. The gospel was to be carried to the uttermost parts of the earth, and they claimed the endowment of power that Christ had promised. Then it was that the Holy Spirit was poured out, and thousands were converted in a day.
So it may be now. Instead of man’s speculations, let the word of God be
preached. Let Christians put away their dissensions, and give themselves to God for the saving of the
lost. Let them in faith ask for the blessing, and it will come. The outpouring of the Spirit in apostolic days was the "former rain," and glorious was the result. But the "latter rain" will be more abundant. Joel 2:23.”—
